Beam Loading Compensation in the Main Linac of Clic

چکیده

Compensation of multi-bunch beam loading is of great importance in the main linac of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). The bunch-to-bunch energy variation has to stay below 1 part in 10. In CLIC, the RF power is obtained by decelerating a drive beam which is formed by merging a number of short bunch trains. A promising scheme for tackling beam loading in the main linac is based on varying the lengths of the bunch trains in the drive beam. The scheme and its expected performance are presented.

Development of a Beam Loss Detection System for the CLIC Test Facility 3

The CLIC test facility 3 (CTF3) provides a 3.5A, 1.6μs electron beam pulse of 150MeV at the end of the linac. The average beam power is 4 kW. Beam losses will be monitored all along the linac in order to keep the radiation level as low as possible. The heavy beam loading of the linac can lead to time transients of beam position, size and energy along the pulse. To compensate for these transient...

TWO-FREQUENCY BEAM-LOADING COMPENSATION in the DRIVE- BEAM ACCELERATOR of the CLIC TEST FACILITY

The CLIC Test Facility (CTF) is a prototype two-beam accelerator, in which a high-current “drive beam” is used to generate the RF power for the main-beam accelerator. The drive-beam accelerator consists of two S-band structures which accelerate a bunch train with a total charge of 500 nC. The substantial beam loading is compensated by operating the two accelerating structures at 7.81 MHz above ...

X-band Crab Cavities for the Clic Beam Delivery System

The CLIC machine incorporates a 20 mrad crossing angle at the IP to aid the extraction of spent beams. In order to recover the luminosity lost through the crossing angle a crab cavity is proposed to rotate the bunches prior to collision. The crab cavity is chosen to have the same frequency as the main linac (11.9942 GHz) as a compromise between size, phase stability requirements and beam loadin...

GeV CLIC γγ Collider Based on it’s Drive Beam FEL

CLIC is a linear ee (γγ) collider project which uses a drive beam to accelerate the main beam. The drive beam provides RF power for each corresponding unit of the main linac through energy extracting RF structures. CLIC has a wide range of center-of-mass energy options from 150 GeV to 3 TeV. The present paper contains optimization of Free Electron Laser (FEL) using one bunch of CLIC drive beam ...

European Organization for Nuclear Research Cern – Accelerators and Technology Sector

The aim of the latest CLIC test facility CTF3, built at CERN by an international collaboration, is to prove the main feasibility issues of the CLIC two-beam acceleration technology. Several of the main goals have been already achieved in the past years, like the full-loading linac operation mode and the delay loop principle. During 2008 also the combiner ring concept has been experimentally pro...
